It’s freezing cold outside and we’ve run out of food due to enjoying ourselves too much to do the shopping.
So it’s time to order a takeaway and what better on a foul night than a curry.
Having had the Mehek recommended by a friend, I dig out the menu and take a gamble.
I need warming up and like the sound of a starter called Massala Murgh K’Leeja, which the menu says is chicken liver flame fried with spices.
When it arrives, the seasoning is spot on and the chicken is tender - at £2.50 that is a good call.
One of the house specials is Anari Jinga, which is king prawns cooked with ground pomegranate in a slightly tangy sauce.
Sounds different, so I give that a spin.
It could perhaps be a bit more tangy, but the pomegranate gives an interesting flavour and the king prawns are tasty.
Decent for £6.95.
The menu also offers a good choice of jalfrezi, tandoori, biryani and balti dishes.
And there’s a section of the menu devoted to old favourites such as bhuna, dansak, dopiaza and methi.
If you can’t choose, put yourself in their hands and go for the set meal for two at £17.50 with chicken bhuna and lamb karai as the mains.
The set meal for four is good value at £32.50 with the mains being chicken bhuna, meat roghan, prawn jalfrezi and vegetable karai.
Overall, the Mehek offers a good selection with some tempting sounding specials.
The food was flavoursome and the delivery service spot on.
So my friend was right to recommend the place and we’ll be using it again.
Hurrah for not doing the shopping.
