Have your say

This correspondent last went off-piste by sampling a Waitrose takeaway – so in the interests of fairness, it’s only right to sample a rival upmarket supermarket’s offering.

Marks and Spencer is currently running a ‘buy one, get one half price’ offer on Chinese meals.

Some might say it’s not a true takeaway – but despite the heating-up and fiddling with packaging, the dishes were surprisingly impressive.

The ‘Chinese favourites’ deal includes egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean sauce, battered sweet chilli chicken, egg noodles and spring rolls.

Among the successes were the black bean sauce , which was rich and satisfying, while the chicken was chunky and crisp. It offered plenty of food for two people and, with drinks, came to just £20. Not bad at all.
