Two Doncaster school cooks were getting the frying pans out today to provide Shrove Tuesday entertainment for shoppers at Doncaster Market.
Lisa Scriven and Anne Turner, who are both cooks from the council’s schools catering department, will be flipping pancakes outside Doncaster Markets between 11am and 2pm.
The tasty treats will then be given away free to members of the public, as part of traditional Pancake Day celebrations before the start of Lent.
The pair are no strangers to cooking out in the open air, having both taken part in Channel Five’s cookery programme Street Market Chefs which was filmed at Doncaster Market for an episode last year.
Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies said: “The markets have everything you need for Pancake Day from eggs and flour to sugar, lemons and more exotic fillings like fresh pineapple and mangos.
“Doncaster Markets host events like this all year round which create a fantastic atmosphere for shoppers.”
Councillor Mark Thompson, cabinet member for corporate services, environment and sustainability, waste disposal and recycling, said: “I am delighted to see our school cooks showing off their skills and serving some delicious pancakes to shoppers.
”They will also be able to offer advice to members of the public on interesting fillings.”
