Have your say

Why is it the dish your partner chooses always looks so much better than yours when you dine out?

Food envy is so common, head chef at Napoleon’s Casino & Restaurant on Ecclesall Road, Richard Burden, has strived to come up with a solution - menu Preview Taster evenings.

On the last Monday of the month, diners can sample Richard’s elegant dishes from next month’s new menu, in miniature form.

A platter of four starters, a main course and a platter of up to five desserts (for two to share) costs £22.50. Says catering manager Matt Proud: “On taster night, you pretty much get a bit of everything - and if diners come back later that month, they know exactly what they want off the menu.”

Taster Evenings launch next Monday.

It’s looking like the foodies’ social event of the year - and it’s only January.

All public tickets are sold out for the exclusive launch party of the new Wig & Pen by The Milestone tomorrow night.

The Campo Lane gastro pub is now in the hands of Matt Bigland & Marc Sheldon, of The Milestone at Kelham Island fame (Gordon Ramsay’s best British restaurant).

The launch party has a VIP guest-list. But £30 tickets, which included a goody bag and a Milestone cookbook, went on sale. All had gone within days and 50 names are on a waiting list for cancellations.

The only way to get in to sample the canapés, champagne, tasters from the new menu and bag a seat at the new Oyster Bar may be by tagging on to a friendly VIP’s coat-tails.
