It may be January, but Whirlow Hall Farm is firing up its barbecue...
And forget burgers - it's breakfast getting a grilling.
The farm near Ecclesall is throwing open the gates on Sunday for the 12th annual Farmhouse Breakfast Week (January 23-29).
Bacon from the farm's own pigs, fresh eggs and home-grown vegetables, all normally on sale at the Farm Shop, will be cooked to perfection for visitors.
Shake Up Your Wake Up is the theme of this year's event aimed at changing the habits of breakfast-skippers.
Healthy eating campaigners want the one in four who go without to make time for what they say is the most important meal of the day. A healthy balanced breakfast sustains energy levels and prevents concentration dips mid-morning, say nutritionists.
But in spite of extensive scientific evidence, one in six adults never eat breakfast and one in ten skip breakfast in the belief that it will help them lose weight. Yet people who start the day with a healthy breakfast are more likely to be within their ideal weight range.
Whirlow's breakfast event coincides with an early wake-up call for spring - it's the first of its two annual lambing days. Visitors can listen to lambing talks throughout the day and possibly witness the birth of a lamb. Entry is 3 for children, 2.50 for adults or just 10 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children).
