The spring bank holiday is a great excuse for South Yorkshire families to get out and explore what our region has to offer.

There is plenty going on to keep children and adults entertained at top attractions across the county and beyond.

The Sheffield Industrial Museum Trust has a variety of fun events planned across its sites during the school holidays.

The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet will celebrate Sheffield Environment Week next Wednesday, May 27, by inviting young guests to make their own twig monster and either plant it in the hamlet’s garden or take it home.

The event runs from 10am to 12.30pm.

At the same time, visitors can also use the new ‘Abbeydale Explorer’ app to explore the site’s different buildings and reveal the hamlet’s rich history.

‘We offer safe, affordable and fun day trips and holidays for all the family to enjoy over the school breaks’

Meanwhile at Kelham Island Museum, the Melting Shop children’s play area will be open throughout the holidays.

Kids will love being ‘melted, poured, rolled and hammered’ into a steel object from their imagination.

Over at the Shepherd Wheel Workshop in Whiteley Woods, the site will be open all weekend and bank holiday Monday.

Visitors can learn about life as a grinder, with the audio orientation posts bringing to life the people and processes at work.
