A new football league designed to help keep youngsters off the streets has been launched in Doncaster.

The Doncaster Rovers Community Foundation will deliver weekly coaching sessions as part of the ‘Game On – Midnight League’.

Sessions are available at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre in Denaby on Wednesdays 6pm to 8pm and Fridays 7pm to 9pm, and Sir Thomas Wharton Community College, Edlington, on Friday evenings 6.30pm to 8.30pm and Saturday evenings 6pm to 8pm, throughout term time and holidays.

Marie Hepburn, Doncaster Rovers Community Foundation’s community manager, said: “Game On – Midnight League will make a huge difference to people within our community.

“Not only do the youngsters now have the opportunity to improve their health and fitness along with their social skills, but for a few nights per week parents can be safe in the knowledge their children are not hanging around the streets.”

The scheme is a partnership between the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and The Football League Trust and has been hailed as a success in other regions.
