A Thor-oughly great family film that hammers home the laughs - that’s the verdict of cinemagoers after a world premiere screening in Sheffield of Thor The Dark World.

The 12A film goes on general release in the UK from Wednesday, October 30.

But Cineworld Sheffield was one of a few selected cinemas to take part in a synchronised preview showing of the new Marvel comic book blockbuster at the same time as the red-carpet world premiere in London.

The Sheffield audience included Star winners and speical guests.

They saw Hollywood hunk Chris Hemsworth reprise his role of mighty Thor, with Anthony Hopkins as his father Odin, king of planet Asgard, and Christopher Eccleston as bad guy Malekith, hell bent on plunging the universe into darkness - with a spectacular fight to the death in modern day London.

Lauren Turner, aged 33, of Sheffield, said: “Absolutely amazing. It is by far the best 3D film I’ve seen. It’s really, really good - I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.”

Ben Asquith, nine, of Sheffield, said: “I thought it was awesome. And Thor’s hammer - it was cool. I liked all the funny bits. There were some great laughs.”

Gage Roberts, 17, of Sheffield, said: “The special effects were brilliant. It kept you very intrigued in the film, it was quite tense. Film fans should come and watch it.”

Steve Eyre, 52, of Sheffield, President and CEO of comic book sales and meorabilia company World Of Superheroes, added: “It was really good fun, very entertaining. I can’t wait to see Thor back on Earth arguing with Iron Man. Keep these films coming.”

Sheffield Cineworld has a triple bill of Thor, Avengers, and Thor The Dark World in IMAX, starting October 29, 7pm.
