A SHORT season of the best of Russian cinema is being held at the Showroom - culminating in Blockbuster Russia Day on Saturday.
The event has been organised by Sheffield University’s department of Russian and Slavonic Studies and features six films, from courtroom dramas to superhero movies.
The focus is on big budget films from Russia, which attract big audiences domestically but are rarely seen outside of the country.
Blockbuster Russia Day will feature two previews of box office hits and a panel discussion, including Guardian film writer Phil Hoad, on what makes a Russian blockbuster.
Dr Oliver Johnson is organising the season, aimed at academics, students the Russian language-speaking community and general public.
Films being shown include 12, by Academy Award winner Nikita Mikhlakov.
