A Chesterfield woman has organised a sell-out charity event on Friday evening after her two best friends were diagnosed with life-changing diseases.

Georgia White was inspired to host the fundraiser at the Sitwell Arms Hotel in Renishaw after her friend Mel Aitken was diagnosed with cervical cancer aged 24 and Sam McNally, aged 21, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

Georgia, aged 22, said: “I have decided to raise money for the cervical cancer charity Jo’s Trust and Crohns and Colitis UK as at the beginning of this year two of my closest friends, Sam and Mel, got diagnosed with these diseases at the same time.”

Mel has endured chemotherapy and radiotherapy since her diagnosis, while Sam has undergone two operations to remove her large intestine.
