CELEBRITY gardener Charlie Dimmock stars in Chesterfield’s panto, Jack and the Beanstalk.

Fondly remembered from TV gardening show Ground Force, which she presented with Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh for eight years, Charlie plays the Organic Fairy at the Pomegranate Theatre.

She’s primed for any panto pitfalls, having played the role in Bridlington last year.

“Wands and wings don’t lend themselves to quick agile movements sideways – not least coming in from the wings with the curtains to negotiate,” she said.

What she can promise is a production peppered with jokes reflecting her gift for gardening and her love of laughter.

“At school it was just horrific because I was always giggling and just couldn’t control myself at the dinner table,” she said.

Charlie’s chuckling landed her an award as best giggler, her favourite in a string of honours which include fantasy neighbour and redhead of the year.

“The best thing about Ground Force is that we used to get lots of letters,” said Charlie, aged 46. “Like panto, it was one of those programmes where people would sit down as a family and watch it.”

Jack and the Beanstalk runs from December 7 to January 6. Tickets £5 to £14.50. Box office 01246 345222 or www.chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk
