Sheffield’s golden girl Jess Ennis-Hill is one of the latest celebrities to take part in an icy charity challenge.

The Olympic gold medallist took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge which promotes awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and encourages donations to fund research into the illness.

A video posted on YouTube shows the sports star having a bucket of ice-cold water plunged onto her head after being nominated to do so by Sheffield swimmer Braxston Timm.

Jess screams and giggles as she’s doused in the freezing water.

She shared the video with her 1.3 million Twitter followers yesterday, in a tweet that read: “here it is a sleep deprived mummy does the ALS ice bucket challenge”.

New-mum Jess gave birth to her first child Reggie, just last month.

The chilling challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads before challenging others to do the same within 24 hours or forfeit by giving a charitable donation to the cause.

Jess nominated her coach Toni Minichiello, British professional boxer Anthony Joshua and fellow Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy.
