Rolf Harris Mural painted over on Shoreham Street

A mural of Rolf Harris has been removed from a street in Sheffield.

The painting, on a wall in Shoreham Street in the city centre, has been whitewashed by Sheffield Council after the former TV presenter, aged 84, was sentenced to five years, nine months in prison for 12 counts of indecently assaulting four girls in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

He was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court last week.

The authority announced on Friday it was set to replace the ‘inappopriate’ artwork with a new piece of street art.

Coun Isobel Bowler, Cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said: “It’s not appropriate to have a mural of a convicted child abuser on a wall in Sheffield and we are painting it over.

“Longer term we will commission some street art for the space.”
