MATTHEW Sanderson: The Dronfield gym owner, 37, is a Level 3 qualified triathlon coach. He works with athletes around the world via his website organising training programmes.
What have you been doing today?
Today I took seven personal training sessions for a mixture of people. From weight loss clients to pro boxers, a good mix.
I also spent time finalising the New Year promotions for my Woodlands gym.
Who is your inspiration and why?
My dad Keith. A true hard working hero in his working life and probably just as busy in his retirement! He’s just put up my Christmas lights.
Which sports star did you admire when you were growing up?
Brian Deane was a hero of mine and I better say Michael Vaughan as well!
What’s your favourite sport?
Triathlon, so swimming, biking and running.
I compete and coach in these sports and travel around various countries coaching and talking tri most of the time.
Who is the most famous person in your phone?
After his Strictly performance Michael Vaughan! Just ahead of Tim Pickford!
Who or what are you most proud of?
Very proud of my young family. We recently ran the Endcliffe park ‘5k Park Run’ with my four-year-old daughter (now 5!) and my 11 month old son on my back. She’s made of tough stuff that girl!
What’s the best piece of advice you have received?
Run your gym business from arm’s length. Don’t try to do everything it gets you nowhere. Develop your staff and let them deliver the goods.
When did you know you were good at what you do?
As a personal trainer and triathlon coach you get judged by results. I am however only as good as the client is at committing to lifestyle changes!
What one item do you take with you wherever you go?
What is the most nervous you’ve ever been?
My stag do five days before my wedding! I used to be competitive at drinking before I found triathlon.
Do you ever doubt yourself?
Yes, I think it fuels passion for continual learning.
As an Ironman triathlete you always have a few doubts in your mind when you stand on the beach before swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles – I think that is only to be expected.
What is your view on social networks like Twitter and Facebook?
I only use Twitter to keep in touch with my athletes or mates. Prefer speaking wherever possible.
How do you relax away from sport?
I love a wander down Sharrowvale Road, lunch at Jonty’s, artisan bread from Seven Hills and buying veggies from Sharrow Marrow. Seriously love that road!
Where was your last holiday - and would you go again?
Australia – what do you think! Hoping to go back in 2013 – there’s an Ironman competition there!
Do you cook? If so what’s your favourite - if not who provides that favourite meal??
Yes, simple wholesome foods. I’m very passionate about food quality so I tend to provide the ingredients and my wife Claire has some serious cooking skills – smoked haddock risotto takes some beating.
What was the last book you read?
Nutritions playground by Ben Pratt. Fantastic book if you are serious about living a healthy life.
If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you do?
I think I would be on the road running a health club chain for someone else. Not going there though!

Probably because I’m a little bit of a freak but hopefully a little inspiring to some.

It used to be 24, but now I have kids it appears to be Fireman sam and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
