An author has penned his way to the top of a best-selling book list with a page-turner that examines belief in God.

Retired chemist George Rowland, from Chapeltown, Sheffield, spent two years painstakingly researching the subject to put together his book, entitled ‘God: Fact or fantasy. What do you believe?’

George’s intriguing work has captured the attention of many literature fans with the Kindle edition of the book rising to online retailer Amazon’s number one spot in its Religious Studies section.

The married father-of-two says he has read many other books on the theme, but decided he wanted to share his own views on the often controversial subject.

“Most books of this type tend to adopt a firm stance and then proceed to argue exclusively from that viewpoint,” said George, aged 67.

“What I’ve tried to do is to look at the arguments from both sides.”

Within the book George looks at some of the historical, sociological and psychological reasons why people may be drawn towards a belief in God as well as examining the scientific arguments for the origin of the universe.

George added: “The intention is to present the reader with well thought-out and balanced arguments so they can make up their own minds as to what they believe.”
