Sheffield-based TV presenter Dan Walker is to host a new radio show.
The 37-year-old Football Focus presenter, who lives in Hunters Bar with wife Sarah and their three children, will host a daily show on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Sheffield University politics graduate will be joined by BBC Northern Ireland’s Sarah Brett to host Afternoon Edition, starting in October.
A BBC spokesman said: Afternoon Edition will broadcast Monday to Thursday, from 1pm to 4pm, with Dan and Sarah featuring a new range of expert voices, more stories from all over the UK and interviews with big-name guests.
Dan, who is currently in Brazil as part of the BBC’s coverage of the football World Cup, said he was ‘very excited’ about the show.
Afternoon Edition is one of a number of changes at the station, described as ‘the biggest shake-up to its daytime schedule in years’.
Jonathan Wall, BBC Radio 5 controller, said: “This autumn feels the right time to refresh our schedule.
“We have a great blend of established presenters and new signings to take 5 live forward. It’s an exciting and creative team that I know will drive the station on to even greater heights.
