Watch wildlife and see stars

WATCH wildlife settle down to roost, then enjoy an evening of stargazing at a South Yorkshire nature reserve.

RSPB Old Moor and Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society are holding Galaxies And Geese - A Stargazing Live Event, on Saturday, January 12, from 3pm until 6.30pm.

Entry is free and families are being encouraged to come along to the RSPB Old Moor Nature Reserve, in the Dearne Valley, to experience the fun.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “The evening will start with a choice of three walks to our hides to watch our wonderful winter wildfowl come in to roost. You may even see the barn owls return to their nests or bitterns settling down in the reed beds.

“Following the walks, the Astronomy Society will be on hand to show you the wonders of the night sky through their powerful telescopes.

Booking is essential for the event. Email old.moor@rspb.org.uk or call 01226 751 593.
