Waiting for Video...

It was bless this house when Reverend and the Makers star Jon McClure turned up to play a concert at a fan’s Sheffield flat, writes Graham Walker.

Starstruck Connor Elliott and around 40 family and friends couldn’t really believe their eyes and ears when the chart star actually rocked up as promised at his student accommodation in Brearley House, Edward Street.

Lucky Connor, aged 20, won the free concert in a draw after pre-ordering the Sheffield band’s forthcoming album, Thirty Two.

The album, out on February 24, is named after lead singer Jon’s age - he turned 32 just before Christmas - and to celebrate he’s on a camper van tour performing 32 gigs in fans’ homes.

Connor said: “He said he was coming, but when he walked in I couldn’t beleive it. We were all starstruck. This was Jon from Reverend and the Makers playing a concert in my flat. Unbelievable.

“And it was just a fantastic set. He gave us a sneak preview of some fantastic new songs on the new album and some of the bands big hits.

“Everyone here tonight will end up telling their grand kids about the time a real rock star turned up to perform at my flat. Brilliant.”

Jon, travelling the country on his self proclaimed Camper Van Tour, will next play in front of thousands of people on a UK tour of venues, including a sold our show at Sheffield’s O2 Academy, on Friday, March 7.

He told The Star: “I’ve now played about 32 fans’ homes - we’re about half way through. It’s been mad. We had a marriage proposal at one of them. I’ve loved everyone.

“We’re travelling the length of the country. I’ve lost count how many miles we’ve travelled. But I wasn’t going to leave out my home city. I love Sheffield. But we’re playing two fans’ houses most nights, so we went on to Maltby for another gig after that.”

There’s still time for fans to pre-order the album, for a chance to win a free gig in their home and the band are promisinbg something speial for the end of his camper van tour - to be revealed exclusively in The Star.
