It was an evening of glitz and glamour as volunteers showed of their dancing skills for a South Yorkshire children’s charity.

Women in glitzy costumes accompanied by gentlemen in sophisticated evening attire whizzed across the dance floor to raise £31,000 for Dinnington charity Safe@Last.

Just 10 weeks earlier the couples had taken their first steps towards the Not So Strictly Come Dancing Competition when they began their training.

The competition saw them perform the Cha Cha and the Argentine Tango infront of a packed audience and judging panel at Magna Science Adventure Centre.

Votes were open to the audience, as people donated money to their favourite couple, sending the top six into the semi final before the best two couples went head to head for the glitterball trophy.

Andy Viggars, of Ecclesall Road and Frances Yarlett from Greystones in Sheffield were crowned champions.

Hilary Massarella, Safe@Last founder trustee, said: “We are so grateful to every one of the amazing dancers whose commitment to training, to each other, and to raising funds through sponsorship has been incredible.

“All this remarkable effort has resulted in raising an astounding £31,000 for Safe@Last – the most we have ever raised at a Not So Strictly Come Dancing event.

“We have to raise in excess of £200,000 every year through events like this and this astonishing amount will ensure that we can continue to provide our services for young runaways into the foreseeable future.”
