A unique collection of photos showing life through the decades in Stannington is to go on display this weekend.
Stannington Tenants’ and Residents’ Association is hosting its summer gala at Long Lane Playing Field, on Saturday.
As part of the attractions Stannington and District Library Group will display the photographs, which were donated to the group by a lifelong resident.
The images show how the lives of residents have changed through the decades in the area.
Library volunteer Jenny van Tinteren said: “We were surprised and delighted to receive this archive.
“It came to us out of the blue when we began recruiting volunteers, and I do want to thank our donor for this generous gift.
“When we assume management responsibility for Stannington Library at the end of September, we intend to make the pictures a feature of many of the things we will be doing, but we are happy to have Saturday’s early opportunity for people to have a preview of the collection.
“Some of the images date back as far as the early part of the 20th century.
“It really is fun spotting the buildings that have gone and the ones still here, and the very different way people dressed is always quite amazing.”
Stannington and District Library Group members will also be on hand to discuss its plans for running the library as a community facility at the gala, which runs from noon to 5pm.
