A Sheffield bike store manager says excitement is growing ahead of this summer’s Tour de France coming to the city.

Andy Liversidge, aged 29, who is manager of the Giant Store on Queen’s Road, Lowfield, said that since the beginning of January they had seen lots of new customers buying road bikes.

He said: “When we opened the doors at the end of October we always knew 2014 was going to be a great year for cycling in Sheffield, but we didn’t expect the interest to start as early as January.

“This is a fantastic surprise for all involved with the store.

“When an opportunity to manage a Giant store in Sheffield - home to the 2014 Tour De France - was offered to me I started the most exciting career opportunity of my life.

“The real buzz at the moment is definitely centred around our road bikes which seem to be getting more and more popular as every week goes by.

“It’s evident talking to customers this influx of interest is coming courtesy of Le Tour.

“The excitement is contagious, the atmosphere later this summer is going to be electric and I can’t wait to see the full impact the Tour is going to have on cycling in the city.”

Giant Sheffield has several events planned in the run up to the Tour, including rides out to the Peak District. Visit www.giant-Sheffield.co.uk for details.
