‘Stunning’ wartime art on show in Sheffield

Art by Polish artists forced to flee Europe during World War II is to go on show for the first time in Sheffield.

Pole Position: Polish Art in Britain 1930-1089 is at the Graves Gallery from today.

It includes paintings and drawings by 60 artists, some captured and imprisoned before finding their way to Britain.

The show was created from the private collection of Matthew Bateson.

Sian Brown, of Museums Sheffield, described the work as ‘stunning’.
