Two South Yorkshire bands are hitting the road – after both announced spring tours to promote new music.

Sheffield’s The Crookes are off on tour to promote their third album Soapbox, which is released in April, after the first single, Play Dumb, which is out on Monday, March 3.

The quartet – bassist and frontman George Waite, guitarists Tom Dakin and Daniel Hopewell and drummer Russell Bates – kick off in Nottingham in mid-April before a string of dates across England and Scotland.

The tour heads into Europe in May, with shows in countries including Italy and Switzerland, before the tour ends with a special hometown gig at The Leadmill on Saturday, May 31.

Talking about the album, Daniel said: “This is definitely the bravest collection of songs we’ve ever written.

“Musically we’ve definitely grown up. It certainly isn’t a happy, carefree album. But, the intention has never been to make people like us, but simply to make music we like.”

Meanwhile, The Sherlocks, from Bolton Upon Dearne, are off on tour on the back of EP First Bite of the Apple, which is now available on iTunes.

The quartet – singer Kiaran Crook, his brother Brandon on drums, Josh Davidson on guitar and his brother Andy on bass – kick off in Leeds on Saturday, February 22 and include dates at The Trades, Rotherham, on Friday, February 28, Chesterfield’s The Spital on Saturday, March 15, and The Plug in Sheffield on Saturday, March 22.

The tour ends on Friday, April 25, with a show at The Leopard in Doncaster.

Brandon said: “We look forward to seeing you all – it’s a big year for us.”

The Sherlocks are also playing a free acoustic gig at Okeh Cafe, Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, on Saturday at 1pm, while they have also confirmed they will play Mosborough Music Festival in Sheffield on Saturday, June 7.

Tickets for The Sherlocks gigs are now on sale. Tickets for The Crookes tour go on sale tomorrow at 10am.
