Sheffield students afloat in re-creation of prehistoric boat

Students paddled into the past in a replica of a boat used by Sheffielders in prehistoric times.

Young archaeologists from Sheffield University created the five metre craft from woven willow, rawhide and tarred linen.

They took to the River Don at Kelham Island with help from Sheffield Kayak Club.

The team believe such boats enabled prehistoric people to travel from settlement such as Wincobank Hill to the Humber, up to York and other ancient communities.
