Buckets of fun were had at a seaside spectacular in Sheffield city centre.

Visitors of all ages flocked to The Moor for its Pier and Prom event, which celebrated all that is great about the good old British seaside.

Highlights for youngsters included fairground rides, face painting and a Punch and Judy show.

Meanwhile games of bingo, a knobbly knees contest and a glamorous granny competition gave adults the opportunity to join in the fun too.

Further seaside entertainment was provided in the form of balloon modelling, caricature drawing, circus workshops and a clairvoyant, plus a host of live performances and outdoor games.

And a sand artist proved popular with the crowds that gathered to view his impressive work.

Sandra Barley, The Moor centre liaison manager, said: “We aren’t very close to the beach here in Sheffield, so we thought it would be a great idea to bring the beach to the city.”

The nostalgic event added to the seaside offering that has been provided by the popular Sheffield by the Seaside event, in and around the Peace Gardens.

Sheffield by the Seaside, which features a beach, funfair rides and stalls, will remain in the city centre until Thursday, August 28.
