The principal of a South Yorkshire college is celebrating after his singing group secured a top award.
Martin Harrison, of Dearne Valley College, sings bass in the barbershop group Hallmark of Harmony, which has just been crowned champion chorus of Great Britain.
He said: “It is a fantastic experience to be part of such a dedicated and gifted team of singers. We are striving to become a global name, shining a light on the talent of Sheffield and South Yorkshire.”
The 50-man group, which consists of singers of all ages, has won six quartet gold medals and been named the ‘best chorus in Britain’ seven times since forming in 1978.
Achieving the gold medal in the BABC National Chorus Championships has now qualified the group for the World Championships taking place in America in 2015.
The chorus need around £200,000 to fund the trip. Find out more www.hallmarkofharmony.co.uk
