Rotherham patients get to art of the matter

MENTAL health patients are benefiting from arts activities to help their recovery.

Sessions are taking place at The Woodlands unit, in the grounds of Rotherham Hospital, which looks after elderly people.

Coun Lyndsay Pitchley, the mental health champion on Rotherham Council, paid a call to the unit to see the work going on.

The visit was prompted by an art exhibition, ARTiculate, which displayed work created by Rotherham people with mental health issues, including older people from The Woodlands and adult mental health service users from nearby Swallownest Court.

Coun Pitchley asked if she could come and see The Woodlands unit, discuss the work there and look in on some of the music sessions it currently has running every Monday. There are also drama workshops later in the week.
