Pupils from Tinsley Junior School take part in the Young Readers Programme at Meadowhall

Pupils from three Sheffield schools were encouraged to discover a love for books during special events at Meadowhall.

Children from Phillimore Primary in Darnall, Tinsley Junior School in Tinsley, and Concord Junior School in Wincobank took part in a series of activities at the shopping centre, to support the Young Readers Programme.

They had tours of bookshops WH Smith and Watersones and took part in story book treasure hunts.

Storyteller and children’s author Gez Walh led an interactive session aimed at encouraging children to enjoy reading outside the classroom.

Lucy Strutt, from the inclusion team at Concord Junior School, said: “Literacy is a fundamental part of any child’s education and it is through interactive, fun sessions such as the ones the children have experienced that we can encourage more children to discover a love for books.”
