Plough Sunday is marked out

The heavy ancient horse-drawn plough stored at the back of Tickhill Parish Church was the centre-point of the annual Plough Sunday service.

Rev Christopher Betson led the service, and members of Tickhill’s farming community wheeled the traditional wooden shafted plough down the aisle to the chancel, where they were joined by the congregation praying for a good year in the fields.

The plough, made many years ago by G Patrick and Son, of Thorne, has two iron wheels and a single steel blade and would have been a familiar sight before tractors.
