Aspiring authors with the ‘write stuff’ are needed for a new 10-week course starting next Wednesday at Sheffield College.
Introduction to Playwriting is a part-time programme to run at the Norton campus, on Dyche Lane, and is aimed at adults.
It will cover the different ways in which a play can be structured, a range of techniques involved in researching and developing script ideas, their format and layout, how much information should be provided to actors and directors, and how to get your idea on to the stage.
Course tutor Christopher Walker, who has taught drama for nearly 25 years and has written three plays, said: “A playwright needs to be imaginative, observant and have a good ear for dialogue. They need to sense what will work well on the stage, and not just on the page.
“Many playwrights made a name for themselves in their 30s and 40s. They didn’t leave school and choose playwriting as a career option – they discovered a talent for it while doing other things.”
n The course fee is £125. To book, call 0114 260 2600.
