ONE of six Sheffield men accused of conspiracy to murder following a shooting was found with £15,000 in the boot of his car when police searched it, a court has heard.
Mohammed Hussain Shafique, aged 25, of Hucklow Road, Firth Park, had his BMW searched by police following the death of 23-year-old Safrajur Jahangir in August last year.
Detective Constable Dawn Blackburn, who was responsible for counting the cash after it was seized, told Sheffield Crown Court she found it in 1,000 bundles.
Prosecutors claim the cash was intended to be used to pay the organisers of the assassination - and Shafique was looking after the cash for safe keeping.
He is alleged to have been given the cash by Mukid Khan, 34, of Ribston Walk, Darnall - one of three brothers said to have planned Mr Jahangir's murder after ending up in jail when he reported them for an attack on him.
Mukid, along with Mohim Khan, 36, of Handsworth Road, Handsworth, and Munaim Khan, 29, of Staniforth Road, Darnall, had been out of prison for three weeks when Safrajur Jahangir was shot dead.
He was delivering a bogus order for a curry placed at his family's takeaway business - the Spice Hut on Middlewood Road, Hillsborough - when he was shot in his car on Scraithwood Dive, Shirecliffe. The curry order was placed to lure him to an isolated spot.
It is alleged the Khan brothers paid for two other men - Jay Allen, 27, of Padley Way, Firth Park, and Saul Mohsin, 21, of Emerson Crescent, Longley - to hire a hitman to carry out the shooting.
The court has heard that gunman Michael Fowler was found dead on a park bench in Longley from a heroin overdose a short time later.
The six defendants deny the offence.
The trial continues.
