SHEFFIELD Olympic champion Jessica Ennis will be the guest of honour at Meadowhall shopping centre’s star-studded Christmas lights switch-on and charity concert.
The London 2012 gold medal-winning heptathlete has been invited to the event on Thursday, November 8, where she will join boy band The Wanted and singer Misha B.
Huge crowds are expected to welcome the athletics star, who attracted thousands of people when a homecoming celebration was held in her honour in the city centre in August.
Darren Pearce, shopping centre director, said: “It’s been an exciting year for Sheffield, and we are pleased to announce Jess will be joining us to help kick off Christmas.”
A further announcement was due to be made this morning confirming that boy band Lawson will also be performing at the concert.
The group includes bassist Ryan Fletcher, who originally comes from Chesterfield
Meadowhall’s switch-on concert, organised with radio station, Capital FM, is being held in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and Help A Capital Child, which supports Teenage Cancer Trust units across Yorkshire.

Earlier the same day, Jess will also be signing her new book, Unbelievable: From My Childhood Dreams to Winning Olympic Gold, at Meadowhall’s WHSmith store at 1pm.
