World Cup referee Howard Webb kicked off a new era when he officially opened Rotherham College’s refurbished student-run restaurant The Wharncliffe.
The restaurant on Percy Street underwent a £1 million makeover last year, both inside and out, but is now fully operational again.
Howard joined the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, Coun John and Kath Foden, at the event, joining college officials and students at the renovated venue.
Students on catering and hospitality courses run the restaurant, which is open to college members as well as the general public.
The opening ceremony saw students and local suppliers showcasing their knowledge and skills during a variety of practical demonstrations including latté art, tea tasting and chocolate making.
The guests also toured the newly extended restaurant, including the kitchens which have been improved with all the latest equipment.
College principal Gill Alton said: “We’ve been delighted to be able to invest in these state of the art facilities which underpin the excellent training offered here. It is important that students have an opportunity to work with industry standard facilities.
