These smouldering South Yorkshire firefighters are looking smoking hot - after stripping to their underwear to pose for a charity calendar.

The women, who all work for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley, are raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity and Cancer Research UK.

The girls were inspired to create the UK’s first female firefighters’ calendar after taking part in Race for Life in summer and raising money to fight breast cancer.

Firefighter Fleur Doyle, aged 37, from Dearne fire station where the photoshoot took place, said the occasion had been very different to a typical day at work.

She said: “Working as a firefighter is very unpredictable. You could be sitting around the table with the lads having your breakfast and be called to anything from a car crash to a house fire or a dog rescue!

“At the photoshoot it was a bit daunting to whip our jackets off and expose ourselves in our bras, but once we relaxed the photographer made us feel at ease.

“It was good fun and we’ve all become great friends by doing it.”

She added: “The calendar looks absolutely fantastic and we had a great time on the shoot. We are real women doing a real job and there is no air-brushing of the images.

“The calendar is for two fantastic causes so we hope it will fill lots of stockings at Christmas.”

Nine women took part in the photoshoot – Fleur, fellow firefighters Nicole Hallat, Frankie Salerno, Jade Styan, Sian Nortcliffe and Claire Morton and crew managers Sarah McCarthy, Sally Stark and Angie Thorp.

Fleur, from Consibrough, said the girls had been given lots of support from their friends, families and male colleagues.

She said 1,000 calendars had been printed so far and they hoped demand will mean more are needed soon.

“It’s everybody’s aim to raise the maximum amount for both charities,” said Fleur.

“All of us have friends or family that have been struck by cancer and Cancer Research UK is such a brilliant cause.

“We have got colleagues who have been burned in fires and the Fire Fighters Charity does so much for them.”

Fire Girls 2013 is £5 and is on sale now through the group’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/Girliefirefighters – and on eBay.

The calendars are also available from Fleur on 07834 494667, Sally on 07766 661318 or Angie on 07973 205631, and from A.Men Salon in Wath-upon-Dearne.

The project was funded through sponsorship from local businesses, and help from fire service colleagues who provided free photography and design.
