Historic site to stay open

SHEFFIELD’S Bishop’s House will continue to be open to the public at weekends after the council takes over its management.

Management of the historic Norton house is being transferred from Museums Sheffield and the authority is hoping to recruit volunteers from the Friends of Bishop’s House to help open it to the public.

Paul Billington, council director of culture, said: “Bishop’s House will remain open for schools and public access.

“However, no final decisions have yet been made on the future opening times.

“We are currently working with the friends group and Museums Sheffield to examine all options.

“The aim is that Bishop’s House will be opened by the friends group to the public at weekends, as it is now.

“Weekday schools visits will also continue as they do now, via Museums Sheffield. We’re aiming for a firm plan to be in place by the end of April and preserve an iconic part of Sheffield’s heritage.”
