A CASTLE is set to unveil its latest restoration project.
Finishing touches will be added to Riding House at Bolsover Castle, once owned by William Cavendish, the first Duke of Newcastle, at a special event today. The nobleman himself is expected to arrive in a flurry of thigh-boots and thrills to rake the final layers of sand into place.
Visitors will be able to see the 17th-century stables, which have been given a new sand floor to resemble its appearance in the time when the Duke was horsemaster to King Charles II, ahead of the return of horses at Easter.
Dressage displays will take place every weekend until the end of the summer at Cavendish’s Riding House. They will recreate the training techniques he once used there, which are still practised today, on a state-of the-art floor put in place by experts from Vienna.
