Fun-filled activities for National Bike Week

GET on your bike and have a wheely good time during fun-filled activities held as part of National Bike Week.

Sheffield Town Hall was laying on a free cyclists' breakfast – where riders could enjoy a free bacon butty while having their cycle checked over between 8am and 10am.

There was also a stall and information stand set up by CycleSheffield, promoting riding and giving regular demonstrations on how to sort out punctures, brakes and gears, between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

And tonight the group is inviting people to explore Sheffield's cycle routes with a guided tour.

Participants are asked to leave their hi-viz, lycra and helmet at home and dress in their most stylish outfit, with prizes for the best dressed judged.

The tour was due to start from Devonshire Green at 5.30pm.

And tomorrow evening there will be a leisurely tour of the eastern loop around Sheffield beginning at Barker's Pool and going to Meadowhall, Parson Cross, Shirecliffe and Hillsborough.

Cyclists can celebrate with a pint in the Fat Cat in Shalesmoor after the 19 mile ride, which begins at 6pm.

On Friday there will be a Sunset at Wincobank 12 mile ride beginning at 6.30pm, also from Barker's Pool, which has been organised to celebrate the first birthday of Friday Night Ride.

The Heeley Wheelie Festival takes place in the Heeley Millennium Park all afternoon from midday on Saturday, while keen mountain bikers can take part in the Five Valleys Ride between 10am and 6pm, with pick-up points from Barker's Pool and Hillsborough Park.

The week finishes with a Pedalling Picnic through the Rother Valley on Sunday, starting from the Cathedral tram stop at 10am.
