A former dancer in the West End is opening a theatre school in Sheffield.

Karl Newsam is launching Kicks Theatre Arts with jazz dance classes throughout the summer, starting at the U-Mix centre in Asline Road, Lowfield, this Sunday, August 3.

And, from September 21, youngsters can take classes every Sunday in acting, dancing and singing, and work towards an Arts Award qualification.

Karl, aged 30, from Hackenthorpe, went to school in Sheffield before moving to London at 17 to further his career in dance and musical theatre. He has now returned to the city, where he works as a make-up artist and also performs in a band.

He said: “I’ve opened the school because I think there’s a need in Sheffield.

“I was concerned that the city doesn’t have many where people get a lot of professional working experience.”

He added the classes would provide students with audition experience for drama school and professional jobs.
