WHEN you think about having a takeaway, ‘Italian’ doesn’t really spring to mind.

But at Piazza’s, on the High Street, smack bang in the centre of town, they’ve made most of their Italian menu available for takeaway.

Dishes such as salmon capri, oven-baked salmon and meat calzone, folded pizza with meatballs, are available to take-away, making for a real, hunger-busting treat.

This is perfect for those days where you’re flagging at the desk and aren’t quite sure whether you’ll wake up again.

We were having one of those days so my colleague and I ordered a selection of dishes from Piazza.

I had the meatball tagliatelle, which comes in a red wine and rich chilli sauce. It’s filling, tasty and the meat is tender. It’s just a shame it’s over so quickly, a bit more meat certainly wouldn’t go amiss. To round off we had two cakes – the carrot cake and the toffee and chocolate cake combination. The carrot cake proved ideal for an afternoon treat and was served in its own plastic tub to take away - ensuring it stayed in one piece, which doesn’t always happen when cakes are simply wrapped in a napkin.

The sponge was moist and coated with a sharply-flavoured cream cheese icing, covered with crushed pecan nuts, which also gave the cake a crunchy texture.

The toffee and chocolate cake is light and intricately put-together. It’s extremely naughty but a real delicious treat with a cup of tea back on the office and also comes in a plastic box.

Staff are really friendly and the service is extremely efficient.
