An eccentric known as one of Britain’s most committed hoarders is appealing for the return of a treasured sword – lost in Sheffield after a screening of a film about his life at the city’s Doc/Fest.
Jake Mangle-Wurzel appeared at a question and answer session after the film, called Mr Somebody, was screened at the Showroom cinema on Saturday afternoon as part of the documentary festival.
The 76-year-old brought with him a 3ft-long sword to lean on.
However, Jake left the ceremonial weapon propped up against a wall when he returned to his parked car about 200 yards from the Showroom on Leadmill Road at about 2.30pm. He then drove off, leaving it behind.
The pensioner, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, said: “It’s a very heavy sword. I got the parts for it myself and had them welded together in about 1979. It’s red, green and gold with a curved hilt. I’m quite distressed. I’d pay a small reward for its return.”
n Anyone with information should call Jake on 01484 647103, or speak to the Doc/Fest team in the Workstation, Paternoster Row
Mr Somebody is screened again at the Showroom on Thursday at 3.30pm.
