One of Britain’s most famous circuses opens the doors to its big top in Sheffield tomorrow.
Zippo’s Circus has set up its colourful tent in Endcliffe Park for performances from August 13 to 18.
The circus’ new 2014 production, called Unchained, promises to wow audiences with a stellar line-up of acts including the globally-renowned musical clowns, The Rastellis.
Known as circus aristocracy, The Rastellis’ fame goes back many generations.
The family’s first appearance in Britain was in the winter of 1929/30, when the grandfather of the current generation took his troupe to appear at the Crystal Palace Grand Continental Circus in London. The current Rastellis have not appeared in Britain since the 1970s.
Joining the musical clowns in the ring will be Guinness World Record-holding strongman Hercules, the Tropicana Troupe of Cuban acrobats and Summer’s high school and liberty horses. Audiences can also expect comedy acts and performances from contortionist Odka.
The show will be led by ringmaster and budgie-trainer Norman Barrett.
