A concert is being planned in memory of a Sheffield comedienne on what would have been her 70th birthday.

Jill Alex started as a singer on the working men’s clubs’ circuit in 1960, before progressing to compere at venues such as Batley Variety Club and The Aquarius in Chesterfield, alongside big names such as Des O’Connor and Neil Sedaka, and then as a solo comedienne.

Following her retirement, Jill and her late husband Geoff ran Eyam Tea Rooms.
