Children to pan for gold on the streets of Sheffield

Children will be able to pan for gold in Sheffield – to help raise cash for the city’s Children’s Hospital.

Youngsters will be able to try their hand at panning using genuine pans from America, where the technique originated, between 11am and 4pm on Sunday.

The £1 fee will be donated to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Sandra Barley, liaison manager at The Moor, where the event is to be held, said: “It’s a shame it can’t be real gold but finding iron pyrite seems to excite young prospectors.”
