Business owners in Hillsborough are capitalising on the Tour de France by coming together to launch a new festival.
The Middlewood Road Street Market will be held on July 5, the day before thousands of people watch the Tour come through the city.
Sam Groom, from S6 Platform, and Karen Sherwood, of the Cupola Gallery, came up with the idea to help bring a party atmosphere to the area.
Sam said: “Hillsborough seems to miss out a little on events and promotional activity and there is such a lot of creative people, talent and spirit in the area that we think deserves promoting and celebrating.
“This is a chance to do that and have fun at the same time.”
The pair are looking for applications from people who want to have a stall, perform or run a workshop at the event, which will run from noon to 4pm.
Karen said: “We thought: ‘What can we do for the Tour de France?’
“It goes along Herries Road and Penistone Road, so it’s metres away.
“Hillsborough doesn’t have a festival and we think it should. There are a lot of arty people around here.
“We’ve already had a few applications in for stalls, and want to hear from anyone else who wants one.
“This is a not-for-profit event, so there are no charges and no fees but people will need to provide their own stalls.”
Karen added that if it was a success then they would look into making it an annual event.

The deadline for applications is next Friday, June 13.
