Brewery toasts regional award

South Yorkshire’s expanding Acorn Brewery has toasted a top accolade from the north’s independent brewers.

The Barnsley brewer’s Old Moor Porter triumphed with a Gold award in its class at the Society of Independent Brewers North Region Beer Competition.

The ale now goes forward to compete in the SIBA National Competition in early 2013.

SIBA’s Great Northern Beer Festival in Manchester judged a total of 265 cask and 122 bottled beers across 13 categories.

The award coincided with a visit to the Wombwell brewer by Michael Dugher, MP for Barnsley East and a member of the shadow cabinet.

Mr Dugher has supported the brewery by arranging for Barnsley Bitter to be sold in the House of Commons earlier in the year.
