Banned Hillsborough film up for top award

A TV documentary about the Hillsborough Disaster which can’t currently be shown in the UK has been nominated by an Emmy.

The two hour film Hillsborough can’t be seen to avoid breaking a contempt of court ruling imposed during the current inquests in Warrington.

It is based on the research carried out by Professor Phil Scraton, who was a member of the Hillsborough Independent Panel and main author of its report.

The report led to the new inquests, to the current IPCC investigation and to a full criminal inquiry.

The documentary which was directed by Dan Gordon is shortlisted for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Film-making at the annual awards highlighting the best in TV in Los Angeles in August. It was co-produced by the BBC.
