Sheffield student songbird scoops top prize in talent show

Sheffield University English student Ellis Cox, from Chesterfield, has just won the National Tesco Talent Competition.

Sheffield University English student Ellis Cox, from Chesterfield, has just won the National Tesco Talent Competition.

A SINGER studying at Sheffield University has won the national finals of Tesco Distribution’s Got Talent charity competition.

Ellis Cox, who was Chesterfield Tesco Distribution Centre’s nominated performer, beat 19 other contestants earlier this month to claim a £1,000 prize in the finals of the firm’s charity fundraiser, on Saturday, February 2.

Ellis, studying English Literature, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to get involved in an exciting fundraising event and to have fun and help support Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists.”

Votes for performers were recorded through a text-messaging system with each vote making a £1 contribution to Cancer Research UK.

The competition hopes to have raised £60,000 towards the overall £10 million Tesco are aiming to raise for Cancer Research UK this year.
