VIDEO: Hitchcock verdicts at Cineworld Sheffield

HITCHCOCK, the Hollywood biopic about the legendary Psycho film-maker, got the thumbs-up from movie fans at an advance screening at Cineworld Sheffield.

The 12A film – which goes on general release in the UK on Friday, February 8, 2013 – was shown to competition winners and special guests at Cineworld Sheffield.

And the verdict? A ‘must-see’ film for lovers of the master of suspense, the golden age of cinema and high quality drama.

It’s a snapshot look at the life of Alfred Hitchcock, superbly acted by Sir Anthony Hopkins, as it follows the making of his most famous film, Psycho.

There’s a twist. It reveals wife, Alma Reville, with Helen Mirren putting in another commanding performance, was as much the creative genius.

Without her, according to the film, we wouldn’t have had the screaming violins during the infamous shower scene, where Janet Leigh’s character Marion Crane, played here by Scarlett Johansson, is stabbed to death.

Fox Searchlight Pictures and Cineworld Sheffield gave lucky Star readers a sneak peak of the film.

Daniel Smith, aged 32, of Maltby, Rotherham, said: “Two good performances. Hopkins definitely looked the part and played it well. Helen Mirren was excellent. Definitely worth seeing.”

Amy Foster, 28, of Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, said: “It was fantastic. I like comedies but there’s a good bit of humour and jokes in there. I really enjoyed it.”

Simone Berry, 16, of Hoyland, Barnsley, said: “It was excellent. The leads were very good and Scarlett Johansson looked fabulous. It’s a must-see film.”

Josh Walker, 18, of Elsecar, Barnsley, said: “The prosthetics paid off. Anthony Hopkins didn’t look anything like this in Silence of the Lambs.”

Neil Flavell, Cineworld Sheffield Operations Manager, added: “It’s very insightful and entertaining. A lot of people are intersted in dramas and thrillers. This is a bit of both.”

Cineworld Sheffield is exclusively showing an IMAX version of Life Of Pi for just one week, from tomorrow. The next IMAX film is A Good Day To Die Hard, from February 14.
