A new nine-screen cinema and six restaurants are to be built in Barnsley - and could open within two years.
Plans have been announced for the new facilities to be added at the Alhambra Shopping Centre.
Landlords F&C Reit want building work to start in April, ahead of the cinema and restaurants opening in spring 2016.
No details have yet been announced of what companies will be taking over the restaurant and cinema units at the centre, which was built in the early 1990s.
John Tarrant, Alhambra Shopping Centre manager, said: “I can speak on behalf of myself and the rest of the management team here at the Alhambra when I say how delighted we are to be able to announce our latest development.
“The cinema and selection of eateries will give residents a new and safe leisure destination while helping Barnsley town centre thrive, and it is a commitment to the ongoing development and future of the area.”
A brand new entrance will be created leading straight up to the cinema from New Street with pedestrian escalators and stairs.
The investment will also see digital screens at the Sheffield Road entrance and along West Way, to advertise and showcase retailers and cinema listings.
The work will include a glazed mono-pitched roof up on the second floor, where the centre management team is currently situated.
Spencer Gower, asset manager from landlords F&C Reit, said: “This multi-million-pound investment will bring a much needed leisure hub to Barnsley and confirms our belief and commitment to the town centre.
“The Alhambra Shopping Centre will become the main leisure venue, and we want to make it a destination not just for the local people of Barnsley but to help bring people in from the surrounding areas, which will also benefit the local economy.”
