A documentary giving a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes at a music festival in Barnsley has been released.

Filmmaker Giannis Kipreos followed organisers at this year’s free Live in Barnsley music festival, taking in the sights and sounds of the day and getting an insight into how it was organised.

The film begins with the festival media launch in May and features interviews with musician Feargal Sharkey and Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher and then follows the organisers from setting up the festival to its finale.

Organiser Dave Pearsall said: “It was an amazing day that exceeded all our expectations and Giannis was there every step of the way with us. I think he has managed to capture a flavour of the passion and commitment that goes into the festival and some of the behind the scenes stories that people don’t get to see normally.

“He also managed to capture some of the great performances this year from the likes of Allusondrugs, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and the unbelievable scenes at the We Are The Bands finale.”

The 20-minute film premiered at The Underground Club on Market Hill last week and featured performances from The Jake Sharpe Band, Overclockwise and young musician Helena Kate Bland.

Giannis, of GKS Videography, said discussions are already underway about next year’s festival, on June 20.

He added: “I came to the project pretty late in the planning but the guys made me feel at home straight away and gave me complete access to everything. We’ve already chatted about working together on next year’s festival and doing something even bigger next time.”

The film has also been released on You Tube.
